During the afternoon of April 19, 1999 I interviewed John and Cathy Pasch of Fremont, Ohio.

According to Cathy’s account, she was a passenger in her husband’s new truck driving home from bingo at the VFW Hall in Clyde, Ohio headed west on Limerick Road around 10:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 14, 1999. As they approached Route 19, her husband noticed three lights through the windshield at tree top level directly ahead of them, standing still as if they were attached to a helicopter. There was one bright light and two smaller dimmer lights along side, all white. The lights were steady; they did not blink. Their’s was the only vehicle on the road and it was a very dark night with clear sky. At Route 19 they stopped to roll down the windows to determine if they could hear anything, but they could not.

Cathy’s husband then proceeded to speed up to get close to the lights, but the lights moved away as if they "sensed" what he was doing and were soon "just gone." When the lights moved, they seemed to her to turn from white to red. She stated that although there was an "eerieness" to the episode, the incident at the same time, "made me feel peaceful."

While they were watching these lights, they also saw blinking lights in the distance that were obviously on an airplane. Cathy estimated the duration of the sighting to have lasted not more than five minutes.

John was interviewed two hours after Cathy’s interview. According to him, he was driving home from the bingo game at about 9:30 P.M., an estimate ½ hour earlier than Cathy’s, when he spotted a bright white light with two smaller white lights on either side just before reaching Route 19. He estimated the size of the largest light to be about the size of a nickel held at arm’s length. It was a clear night with "millions of stars." There were no other vehicles on that road at that time.

He guessed that the lights were a half-mile away. They had rolled down the windows to check for sound but could hear nothing. He sped up to attempt to get closer, but the lights moved, first west, then south, then "just like that" they were gone. When they moved it was quite fast and all of the lights were equidistant apart in a straight line, and seemed then to be all the smaller size. When they moved they changed color to what appeared to be light red. Throughout their initial sighting and movement, the lights appeared to be just about at tree top height.

John estimated the sighting lasted about a minute and a half. The next day he reported the sighting to the Sandusky County Sheriff’s office in Fremont. The Sheriff’s records note the Incident number as 99002846. It was received by Deputy C. Dearth/7261 on April 15 at 16:01. The incident location is listed as "Limerick Road/N ST RT 19."

At 9:45 P.M. on Sunday March 14, 1999, I spoke with Ms. Jamie Kwiatkowski of Clyde, Ohio. This seemingly guileless teenager was willing to be interviewed about her experience, although her boy friend who was with her said that he "wants no part of any investigation." However he did provide details and corroborated much of what Jamie had to say.

Jamie was riding in the passenger seat of her boy friend’s car as he drove north on Route 268, a county road. It was Thursday March 11, 1999 at about 10:30 P.M. They noticed a strange white light through the windshield ahead of them and to the left of the car. At first, it seemed to be as if it were a light on a tower, but knowledgeable of the area, they knew there were no towers that would have such a light. They did not think it was an airplane, although it was moving, because it did not look like any airplane light they had ever seen.

They decided to speed up to see if they could catch up with whatever the light was. They chased the light for almost two miles, all the while trying to figure out what it was. They finally "caught up" with the light when they were almost to the junction of Route 268 and US Route 20, when the light became stationary and hovered over the road in front of them. They turned off the car engine and lowered the windows to determine if they could hear any sound.

Once stopped, the light turned out to be three separate white non-flashing lights at the three "corners" of what she described as a black "pyramid." Jamie said that they could distinctly see the black pyramid shape against the black sky background. The pyramid was slightly larger than a softball held at arm’s length. She believed the lights were fairly close to them (the boy friend prompted her that it was about 200 feet in the air, straight ahead over the road). They were watching it straight ahead through the windshield.

She stated that there was a humming sound, but she could not tell if the sound was coming from traffic on Route 20, a busy highway, or really coming from the lights. At no time did Jamie refer to what she saw as a craft, UFO, spaceship, object, or anything else that connoted a solid object. It was three lights and a pyramid.

After what seemed to be a long time, but what they believed was really about two minutes, her boyfriend flashed the headlights of the car on and off. Almost immediately the lighted pyramid moved to their right then shot up into the sky at a slight angle eastward like a shooting star until it became a dot the size of a bright star. They could see the white dot for a short time, then it disappeared. The entire time of this episode she estimated to be about ten minutes.

She and her boyfriend then went to her house from where they called the police.

The records of the Sandusky County Sheriff’s office in Fremont note the Incident number as 99001866. The report was received by Sgt. Michael McGuire, Unit 215, on March 11, 1999 at 23:45. The incident location is listed as "Area of SR 101 + CR 260." Sgt. McGuire’s report notes that he called the National Reporting Center, Seattle, Washington to report this incident. His report contains additional notes which read in part, "Ten minutes or so later a Peter Davenport called back…and stated that a similar sighting had been reported near Chicago, Illinois just 10 minutes before the UFO was sighted in the area of CR 260 and SR 101."

The following statement was taken from the Sandusky County Sheriff’s office report noted as Incident number as 99001950. The report was made by "Deputy [Kyle] Amor" on March 14, 1999 at 23:36.The incident location is listed as "SW of 712 CR 126."

"The complaintant [unidentified in the Deputy’s report] called dispatch and indicated he was observing a strange array of lights in the sky that appeared to be southwest from his [deleted for privacy reasons by the Deputy] residence. The complaintant described the lights as being clustered together and multi-colored.

"As I responded to the area of the call, I first observed the cluster of lights as I was on the west end of the bypass. They appeared to be red, green, white, or yellow in color. I continued south on SR53 and then west on SR 12. The lights did not appear to be getting closer, so I pulled my cruiser over at the intersection of CR 12 and SR 12 in order to retrieve my field glasses from the trunk.

"I was unable to identify the object through my field glasses. The lights appeared to be illuminating in a steady fashion. I did not observe any flashing or change in brightness.

"The unidentified flying object did not give me any indication that it was anything other than a plane or helicopter. Although the lights did not appear to be moving at a high rate of speed, the height and distance from my location made it difficult, if not impossible to estimate.

"The object did not appear to be posing a threat or acting in anyway that could have been interpreted as hostile. I returned to routine patrol."

This sighting was also reported in the Fremont News-Messenger of March 15, 1999. In their article it is reported that the Federal Aviation Administration advised the Sheriff’s office that the "phenomena was likely caused by three planets visible in the western sky." The Kwiatkowski sighting and two other sightings, one by a Conchiat Houk and another by a Mark Fouke, are noted also. Fouke said his sighting was of aircraft landing lights, and he only called the Sheriff’s office because he had read of other recent sightings in earlier issues of the newspaper.

While requesting that his name not be used in any report, he went on to explain that is wife and daughter also saw the strange lights as well. The objects, he said, were visible from around 11:30 P.M. until almost 2:00 A.M.

"They were not stars," the witness assured soundly, "they were cigar-shaped, oscillating lights. Several of them were sitting way out to the west of us in a triangular pattern. They were not airplanes or helicopters.

"One that was closest seemed to have a white light underneath and other lights on top. We did not see any structure. They were too far away, but we could see that there was some shape to them.

"The most I ever saw at one time was about 5 or 6 of them, most of the time there were 3 in a triangular pattern. Each individual object would be visible for a lengthy duration of time, and would then move around in different parts of the sky. One moved to the east. They were not on the horizon at any point."

When asked again about the possibility that the witness could have been observing twinkling stars, he stated, "These things were traveling the wrong way for stars. Stars were disappearing in the west. The objects we saw [were] travelling in all different directions, some to the east. In the beginning when they were closest to us we heard a hum."

The daughter, who also came to the phone and discussed the event, described a quiet, low noise heard while the objects were closest to their location. The humming sound was not high pitched, but a somewhat low, steady droning noise.

The objects were still visible but farther off in the distance at 2:00 A.M. when the family finally decided to retire to bed.

The April 13, 1999 issue of the Fremont News-Messenger reports that a Timothy R. Twiss, 18, and Shawn Robinson, 18, saw a saucer shaped object Sunday night, April 11, in the night sky over Fremont. They told Fremont police that they were driving in the area of the Atkinson Elementary School on Brush Street at 9:42 P.M. when they saw a UFO in the sky and described it as saucer shaped, bright white with green lights in the front and back." Twiss said as they were watching, it suddenly "took off like a bolt of lightning."

UFOs were reported in Milan, Michigan during the same time period. Kenny Young was advised of this by email on March 19. According to his source, the Milan police chased UFOs for three nights, March 14, 15, and 16. When Kenny attempted to learn more about this by calling the police department on a number of separate occasions, he was reportedly rebuffed each time.

"In the fall of 1973 [best guess September 20] my sister and I came upon a large silver object hovering approximately 20 feet above us on a clear, sunny afternoon in a heavily populated residential area. We walked around and underneath the craft for 15 or 20 minutes while it remained motionless and soundless above what should have been a busy, suburban street. Without apparent means the craft suddenly shot straight up into a small cloud and drifted away. We both completely forgot about this incident for 3 years. I think it is also relevant that both of us felt then and now that we are missing a 24 hour period in our lives.

"I am still fearful of what I saw but I am more afraid of what I cannot remember…I am a 41 year old police captain who has lead a relatively normal life of ups and downs.

…

"In either September or October of 1973 at approximately 1515 hours, my sister (13 years of age, at the time) and I (16 years of age) had just been dropped off by our school bus in front of our house. We were living in a heavily populated suburban area of Mansfield, Ohio [on] Cook Road. Cook Road is a busy two lane street and, although our section was mostly residential, a school and a convenience store were both within half a block of where we stood. Our house was at the base of two gradually sloping hills amidst dozens of homes on both sides of the street.

"I had exited the bus before my sister and stood waiting for her on the sidewalk. As she stepped from the bus and it pulled away I was startled to see a large object hovering over the street where the school bus had been. I pointed it out to my sister and we both stood captivated by its appearance and proximity. The craft was approximately 35 to 40 feet overhead and it had lights encircling its cigar shaped structure. I believe there was a large red light on one end and a green light on the other, but the rest of the smaller lights were multicolored. It was of a metal that looked like brushed aluminum and had no visible means of levitation or propulsion. It had no wings or propellers.

"I walked into the street underneath the craft and across the street to see it from the other side. There were no numbers or letters of any kind displayed and I could not see any seams for the release of landing apparatus. At one point I picked up a rock to hear what it would sound like bounced against the exterior, but my sister dissuaded me from throwing it. I remember we were becoming increasingly distressed when I was not able to identify this object and by the fact that we were alone. It had been at least fifteen minutes since we first saw the craft and during this time, remarkably, no one had passed by. No one had come out onto their front porch, no other kids walked the sidewalks and no cars drove by. In retrospect this seems absurd given the time of day and the usual traffic on Cook Road.

"When I returned to the side of the street on which my sister stood I now saw a small black oval slightly above the row of lights. We thought it might be a window and waved, but there was no response. Several minutes later the craft suddenly shot up and into a small cumulus cloud which drifted away. I remember my sister asking me what it was to which I replied, ‘I don’t know. Do you think it could be one of those UFOs the paper’s been writing about?’ We were both excited and scared as we walked to our house, whereupon we completely forgot about it.

"Although we had no apparent memory of the event, I recall that we were both very upset with our mother whom we accused of leaving us for a 24 hour period. Mom insisted she had never done such a thing, but we were convinced we had experienced a full 24 hours without her. This missing time was particularly perplexing to both of us and, to this day, remains a disturbing reality. I know that I am missing a day, but I cannot explain it.

"Three years after our encounter I had a sudden recall of the events described above while talking about the cosmos with some college friends. I called my sister and asked her if she had ever seen a flying saucer. At first she said no but when I mentioned the school bus in Ohio she also had a sudden realization and literally gasped on the phone. Her memory of the event is almost exactly like my own, including the little window and the strange missing time. There’s a lot more to tell about subsequent related occurrences and some strange stories of little men I used to tell my mother when I was very young, but this is the heart of the matter. Life goes on but I sure wish I could understand the ‘what’s’ and the ‘whys’ of this event."
